VITT is less likely if the platelet count is >x/L, but D-dimers are elevated or fibrinogen is reduced. VITT is much less likely if the platelet count is stable and >x/L, D-dimers are not elevated AND fibrinogen is normal. Patients can be treated as non-VITT thrombosis.

VITT should be considered when patients present at day 4–28 after vaccination with unusual site thrombosis: splanchnic and/or central venous sinus thrombosis, or thrombocytopenia (or falling platelets) and markedly elevated D‐dimer.
